Powerful words
I wish I could say I’ve always been mindful with the words I’ve spoken, but if you were only a fly on the wall years ago (you already know that’s not true.) Recently my husband, Stephen and I received some disappointing news. We knew it was a possibility of this, but when the call came in it was a wave of emotions. Kind of like in boxing, I took round 1 as my opportunity to encourage and build him up. I was killing it with a positive Godly perspective. Round 1 built him all the way up and myself for a brief moment. Then after a few moments of silence, a wave of disappointment swept over me. How could I feel this way, when a few breaths before I was speaking life? At that moment I felt low, felt unsure, and doubted the same words I just used to build up my husband. Thankfully, Stephen inquired about my silence and round 2 began. He used his words to build me up in the same exact way I used mine to build him. I desperately needed a different perspective; one that turned my disappointment into a new direction.
Words are powerful tools – they have the ability to knock you out or build you up! I’ve been guilty of hoarding, misusing, and not valuing them. I want my words to be an agent of light, truth, and to encourage myself and others. I pray they fall on the right ears at the right time to make a positive lasting impact in someone’s life.
I hope the words you speak this week build someone up!
